The Beginning of “Independent Atlas”
To say that Independent Atlas was born from wine fuelled dreams and whisky ramblings would be a true statement. One cold winter evening in wonderfully wet, windy Wales Niall and Bry (that’s us by the way!) decided that really there was really no need for us to be bundled up in layers clutching our drinks and trying to relax before the next work day started.
We have always been in love with the travel, and, like many before us, have been tempted to never return from our holidays (Niall even once skipped out on his flight home from Ibiza just to cram in one more day, but that’s a whole other story).
So, in that moment, huddled in the cold and dreaming of sunshine and a chance to escape the 9 to 5 rut we were stuck in, we decided to turn our ideas into our reality and take the plunge into the beautiful unknown of travelling. So, with 2 heavy backpacks and a laptop each the adventure began with the goal of living the good life on a budget! Welcome to www.IndependentAtlas.com – A Travel Blog that reveals the secrets of people, places, culture and food, empowering you to travel with insider knowledge and inspiration for your own adventures.
I’m Niall
How to describe me? Food addict would probably be what my friends and family would say, “Always thinking two meals ahead, whilst eating the first one.” But hey I think I have my priorities in good order. How would I describe myself? Excitable! I bounce from one thing to another looking to take in everything that I can. Information, location, food (obviously) and beautiful sights are my vocation, so travel blogging is the ideal thing for me.
If I had to choose the 2 things I love the most it would be cooking and cats. I’m a bit of a dab hand at cooking, which I think is what always keeps me in Bry’s good books, and I seem to have a natural affinity to be able to make friends with any cat that crosses my path. They are definitely my spirit animal (Who wouldn’t want to be fed, stroked, sleep and do whatever they like).
I’m Bryony
On my twitter bio I’ve written that I’m a Universe explorer with a thirst for knowledge and a taste for red wine and great food. This is a fairly accurate description of me. If you add cat video addiction to the list that pretty much sums me up. I think my friends would say that I’m easy going and always radiate positive energy and that’s so important to me. People are my passion and are my favourite part of the new countries and cultures we explore.
I was absolutely terrified at the prospect of leaving our incredible friends and family to start an adventure with no set end date. But it’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing and a wise person once said you should always give more energy to your dreams than you do to your fears. So, here we are on the road – I’m the one with messy red hair sitting in the shade with a glass of wine – make sure you come and say hi if you see me!
